aurora
SGI Origin 350in service
History
The photo above is actually how aurora started. A fantastic guy (member of SGUG discord group) sold me two Origin 350 nodes, both quad 800MHz machines and a back to back NUMAlink cable to cluster them together. It's how my SGI cluster adventure started. Today I have 5 Origin 350 nodes, some built from parts into working nodes and an R-brick, the NUMAlink router that you need to connect more than 2 system together. The R-brick is another story by itself, but aurora today has 20 CPUs and 20GB of memory... can't imagine what SGI would charge for that back in the day. With another fantatsic person that I met online I swapped hardware and got my hands on an original SGI Origin 300 half-rack that now hosts aurora, the L2 to manage it and two Altix 350s.
